All pieces written, performed and mixed by Nicolas Jacquot in between December 2021 and December 2022.

Chahla was recorded live @ DATA, Marseille, on June 21-2022. It was made to introduce a live set of The Jazzercises cycle, as the song You Can’t Buy Yesterday was written to close the Jazzercises Parade, a performative version of the set conceived along with Axelle Terrier, costume designer.

With the playful apparition of Rita Görözdi (recorder) on Jada.

24 CHORALS ++, lofi portfolio

The 24 Chorals series stand as a fancy retrospective, a low fidelity portfolio, based on midi exports of existing scored pieces, plus revitalizations of abandoned sketches. The exports got then mixed with drumbeats, concrete sounds, spontaneous improvisations and sometimes with the original mock-ups. The 24 Chorals series is the fifth apparatus of the Showcase-Showdowns, a multifaceted project I started in 2019 to question the limits of æsthetic hybridations, settling absurd generic designs and arrangements. The reflexion encompassed both self-mockery and true shouts, in the senses that I have been embracing heterogeneity so much in my works that I wanted to self-disput my gimmick, oddly pushing it further, just to see. Secondly, in the sense that I had realized how always belated and picked up is the outcome of trends through cultural institutions and academies compared to the inner speeds, widths and fancies of raw creation, in terms of innovative combinations (of genres, mediums, techniques, disciplines, etc...). It isn't a scoop but worlds of art and culture seem as much connected as disconnected, especially when you take a look at the myriad of official calls, competitions and all lists of criteria that pathetically weed out the gifted goods from the happy bads, self-taught weirdos and grungy wackos ...

THE JAZZERCISES, 11 tracks for advanced dancers

includes : 2 in/out chorals + 3 concrete interludes + 6 dance matrices

"The Jazzercises cycle should be taken as a singular attempt to suspend time. The experience of the suspension is linked to the one that traditionally happens within any celebratory regime, whether profane, whether sacred, always extra-ordinary. The main material, essentially percussive, develops in paracyclic ways, standing for the attention’s vehicle and body movement catalyst. This movement, as we should avoid interrupting it, may generate its own emancipation so that any sorts of unexpected distortions, upcycled dressings and psychic inversions could freely take place. Then, cruising through this new contingent system, we find many opportunities to grasp roughnesses and jolts that were spread here and there in the polyrhythmic textures. Reaching these bifurcation spots as options of getting back down or pulling back up, the stake is for the most advanced dancers to take advantage of the impurities so as to activate the metacognitive fonction of dance and share acutenesses within ordinary times and spaces."

All pieces composed between 2018 and 2020. Both Nodes & Modes largely proceed from The DROM, a Max/Msp built drum machine conceived by Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesh.

Ordered Ordinaries

Ordered Ordinaries is a collection of 7 electronic pieces which originate from vocal and instrumental improvisations, made alone or in duet configurations (with Axelle Terrier (1), Hervé Boghossian (6) and Rita Görözdi (5,7). The raw improvised layers remain untouched but secondly mixed with various signal processings, sassy beats and other serendipitous concrete noises. The collection is introduced by Antimanifesto, a radio piece which was not improvised ...
